Opinions needed!

by Danielle | June 5, 2008

I am considering a few different sweaters for the fall semester knitting classes and wanted to get some opinions on what folks would like to knit. I really want to make the first with the green Road to China that I picked up from the Fiber Company at Maryland Sheep and Wool, but I didn’t want to force my favorite on all of you :)

Since my goal is to make my first sweater this fall, I would do either one–they are both interesting and cute. But I have to confess I am partial to the Tree Jacket.

I’m partial to the tree jacket too – sorry Danielle! (but I do need to learn how to cable so I might be convinced to do the other…)

I like the Tree Jacket but that much garter stitch will make you want to poke out your eye with a knitting needle. And I think the Road To China will look better shown off with some cabley goodness. I personally think not many yarns look their best in garter stitch…

I vote for the cabled sweater. It ha enoughdetail to be interesting to knot, without being fussy.

I wonder if you could take the Tree one but instead of yarn over increases make invisible ones or even m1, so the raglan like won’t be that defined… then totally you could get away with it.
Another point though is that garter is a bulkier stitch so visually can create more volume on the top.

I like the Tree one best only because I much prefer the neckline on it, but really both sweaters are very nice.
