I have harbored desires to put on a snuggie and do a bar crawl with friends since I saw the commercials for them last year. There is something particularly attractive about wearing a giant acrylic flammable blanket around to bars in Old Town. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know.
But then Veronica sent me this. Make sure you are sitting down and have had your coffee before seeing that one. Our first thought…what could be more dangerous in a house fire than being wrapped in a giant crochet (and thus hole filled) snuggie, unable to leap up off of the sofa and escape, only to be trapped in a melting acrylic burrito wrap? What upsets me most is that there are already five projects on Ravelry. I guess as a yarn shop owner, I should be encouraging you all to download this free pattern and make your own, since it requires 7 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver (that is the stuff at Wal-Mart the size of a small child). That is 1600-3000 yards of awesome. Only 3-4 hanks of Miss Babs Yowza! But really, please don’t make this. Please.

But if you made the Snuggie out of Yowza, that would be 100% wool and fire RETARDANT. Thus if your snuggie starts to smolder, you would have enough time to jump off your flaming couch and get out of the house before you were completely engulfed in flames. Furthermore, wool burns cleanly and won’t melt to your skin like acrylic so you’ll be less burned in the long run and not have to go through as many painful skin grafts.
I smell a KAL for October, Fire Prevention Month.
