Here is what I know for sure about this morning:
1. The news crew that was supposed to be here had to go home because their satellite wasn’t working, but the Washington Post did a great article on our sale and interviewed some folks in line. This was the article that they ran yesterday.
2.The first person in line arrived just before 4 am. Folks who arrived at 6:30 am did not get in the door by 8 am.
3. We had 69 people in line when we opened our doors at 6 am.
4. Everyone ate donuts.
5. The Starbucks on Route One came down and took coffee orders from folks in line. Was it free? Anyone know?
6. Our new “Merry Knitmas” bags are completely gone. More will arrive on Monday!
7. You all rock! Thank you so much for making another amazing Black Friday for fibre space!
Here are the things that I heard:
1. Shops up the street came down and handed out coupons to the folks in our line.
2. Did we have the largest line in town? Anyone know?
3. Knitters get cold when standing for long periods of time.
4. It is worth waiting 1. 5 hours to get yarn on sale.
5. The Patch was here and took some photos. They said we had 80 people in line when they are here…Not sure when that was. This morning is a blur.

My yarn purchases were the best things I got today. The hour and a fifteen minute wait were well worth it

At every other store I went to, customers and owners asked me why the line was so long and whether it was worth it (YES!).

Are you offering new “services” in space? The Patch said that you all “had been servicing clients since the early opening hours”!

Well, we were in pajamas, but I don’t think a lot of special “servicing” was happening that morning.

Knitters understand knitters! Everyone in line around me was cordial and friendly, and willing to chat with others to help pass the time. We discussed projects, and what we hoped to purchase. And once inside, the great atmosphere continued as some of us checked out stuff with our new ‘knit buddies’. Worth the wait? Of course! Choose between ‘big chain stores’ or local-no contest! Never went near a mall yesterday, had to go home and touch all my new yarns one more time!

Our section of the line was longing for a Starbucks truck, right around 6:50 a.m. Where was it? No worries; we had a great time.

Got in line at 6:10, got in the door at 7:40, I think. Many thanks to Wendy, who was a space ahead of me and gave me her voucher so I could take my daughter inside; and a shout-out to Cindy, who generously gave me gloves for kiddo. Met some great people while standing in line, so the time passed much more quickly than it would have otherwise. And it was a lot of fun–how many Black Friday sales could be described that way? Generally I’m as far away from the malls as I can get on Black Friday, but I’ll be back next year for the 3rd BF sale at Fibre Space–you really started a good thing in Old Town.

First time I’ve been in DC on Black Friday and the only sale I’ve been to on Black Friday in years. LOVED IT! Fibre Space customers are the best. Loved all the friendly people and most of all loved the project advice I got from folks at the store AND the way everyone was super polite and helpful, rather than making it difficult to get to the great yarns. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I do know if I’m every in DC again for Thanksgiving and this sale is going on – I’ll be back. Now…to knit up those three pairs of socks and three sweaters I bought yarn for… THANK YOU!

Washington Post spelled the store name wrong in their article. I reported it in their correction request form and asked them to fix it. I couldn’t resist.
