The Walt Painted Chevron Baby Blanket

chevron sofa

The blanket that was mostly designed during my latest trip to the amusement parks in Orlando! Walt features raised stripes of Chevron that give baby a nice texture to play with. Select a neutral with lots of bold stripes or choose a bright background and a combination of neutral and colorful stripes, like that seen here.

The Garter and Stockinette stitch patterns are identical – I assume the stockinette should have purls on the WS?

Danielle! I love this. Your color choices are gorgeous and I’m so honored that you chose to create this with Astral Bath Yarns. It’s beautiful. Wow.

I was about to start a standard chevron stripe baby blanket but now I’ve cast on for this project! What a great idea and I wouldn’t have thought about doing the textures like this but I like it a lot.

I LOVE this pattern!! I found it on ravlery and cannot wait to order the yarn and get started for my friend’s expected baby boy. I have a quick question – the yarn I’d like to order for the chevron stripes is 109 yards/skein. Do you think I can get away with one skein in each color? Thanks so much!!

I weighed the leftovers to get an accurate yardage estimate so you will likely be slightly short with 109 yards. However, you can make the stripes slightly thinner by skipping 2 rows.

Thanks so much! I like it as is, so I’ll just order more…maybe the kid will get a little hat and a bib or two!

If I wanted to make this bigger, like to fit a twin bed, what formula would I use?, I love this pattern, I have a Autisic grandson that loves textures, and color, he would love this blanket

If you do a gauge swatch, use that gauge to calculate how wide. So if your gauge is the same as the pattern indicates, multiply the number of inches wide that you want the blanket to be by 4.5 (sts per inch) and then make sure that you round the resulting number to a multiple of 16 plus two.

in row 2 of the garter stitch chevron, you say kfb twice, is this to mean in the same stitch., creating 3 new stitch from one stitch? sorry to be a pest

nope. it means work two kfbs, which would use two stitches and turn it into four stitches.

Do you recommend carrying the yarn of the other color along the side or weaving in the ends?

      I wove in ends.

In between the contrast colors, I’m assuming (looking at the pic) that its 4 rows of stockinette stitch, not 42 rows?

    Reply

  • 3/19/13 10:50 Danielle:

No, it is 42 rows in the middle, as there is a giant section of the teal color in the middle.

I’m looking forward to working this but am fairly new to knitting. What does ktog mean? Is it the same as k2tog? A google search is bringing up knitting groups not a stitch :)

Hi- could you please clarify the yardage requirements on the chevron stripes? First it says “125 yards in each of three CC (chevron stripe colors)” and then it says “Sweet Georgia Worsted (100% machine washable merino wool; approximately 200 yds/115 gram skein) in Pumpkin.”

Was there a difference in the yardage requirement because you used a different yarn so the gauge was different or does one of the 3 stripes require more yarn?

    Thank you!

    • 4/29/13 14:12 Danielle:

The yardage required is as specified: 125 yards of each color. I then list the materials that I used and the details of that yarn in parenthesis. That yarn is 200 yards. I didn’t use all of it but that is the specification of the yarn.
