Rubber mallets are a girl’s best friend

mallet

Or so I hear from my “crew” who have been assembling these amazing fixtures for the past week. I got back from PA and the shop was filled with fabulous new espresso color wall fixtures.

wall-shelves

The piles of boxes you see are a mix of Miss Babs yarn and the glass fixtures that are going in the middle of the shop space, to allow light to flow through.  It looks like we will be opening July 24. This is controlled heavily by the bank, of course, who can give me money when they feel like it. Silly banks.

In other news, I ordered shirts today with that fabulous fibre girl on them! They will be available at the grand opening celebration. And for those of you who are current Knit-a-gogo customers, look out for an exclusive preview party invitation this week…your chance to get in the shop early and experience some of the amazing featured yarns that we are bringing into the shop for our grand opening – before the public at large can get a shot at them!

And the winner is…

by Danielle | June 9, 2009

After a long weekend of deliberations, the fibre space team (ok, so me, my husband, our dogs and three of my teachers) decided upon the name for the new space girl.

Meet our newest addition to the team: Fibre Girl – saving the galaxy from bad yarn!

Congratulations to Cameronne, who wins a $50 gift card to the new shop and bragging rights!

Like I have time for this…

First, go Pens!!

Now for a peak at our little favors for this weekend, which I just spent two hours finishing up…and this is after Amanda spent countless hours on them already:

Who knew it took so long to stick a lightbulb in a box with some tissue paper and tie a ribbon on it. They each contain an energy efficient light bulb. The little cards say, “Thank you for celebrating with us” and the back explains what can be saved by switching just one light bulb to energy efficient. The cards are “Moo cards,” and they are awesome…you can upload up to 100 images and order a pack with a different image on each and every one. only $20!

Here are pictures of the new fibre space shop before the construction began this morning:

and the front (the car didn’t come with the rent, unfortunately):

I am using all energy efficient true color bulbs in the store, to allow for the best lighting for viewing lots of colorful yarn! There is also a lot of natural light in the shop from the two large bay windows.  Exciting, isn’t it?!

I am delighted to present fibre space!

by Danielle | May 25, 2009

For three or four months now I have been furiously working on a new and very large project, and I am delighted to be able to finally announce it to you! Thanks to the loyalty of my customers and the overwhelming response to the business concept, Knit-a-Gogo has expanded greatly in the past year. As a result, I have been feeling more and more pressure to provide you all, my knit & crochet community, with a permanent home. So it is with great pleasure that I announce:

fs_v_color_kag_detailed

Knit-a-Gogo is expanding and will now offer community, classes, parties, events and YARN! My new retail store, fibre space, will provide the best selection and highest quality fiber, needles, hooks and notions at the best possible prices.

Where will it be?!

The new retail location is at 102 N. Fayette Street in Alexandria, VA, across from Five Guys and around the corner or a few blocks from three other craft shops: Potomac Bead Company, Paint your Own Pottery and Knit Happens. It is my hope that with my shop, Alexandria will become metro area’s crafting district, supplying you with all of your craft supply needs.

Classes in the District and Arlington will continue as always but the three previous Alexandria locations will be rolled into the new shop, which has dedicated and private classroom space. (construction starts soon!)

When will you open?! I hope to open in July!

Will you still offer those amazing workshops and retreats? Well of course!!! Now there will be even more! Plan on seeing a variety of in-store events to join the three or four annual workshops or retreats that will be at unique venues around the city.

What yarn will you carry? Well stay tuned! the blog will soon become have more and more information on what is arriving and how the construction project is going at the retail site…

So lets recap…what has Danielle been doing since January? Getting engaged, planning a wedding in Nevis, planning a wedding reception in Pittsburgh, running Knit-a-Gogo, working as a consultant in the city, and planning a retail store!!! So now you know why I have been somewhat MIA and slightly crazier than usual….
