Participants met at the unique and historic Mansion on O Street for a day long scavenger hunt, featuring some of our favorite designers. The day began with a luxurious brunch at the Mansion and the opportunity to explore the Mansion’s 100 rooms and discover some of its 32 secret doorways. Among its many rooms were four workshops, featuring five spectacular designers: Jared Flood, Catherine Gagnon, Tanis Gray, Wendy Johnson & Courtney Kelley.

About the Mansion:

The Mansion on O Street is a luxury hotel and museum comprised of five interconnected townhouses. THE DESIGNERS

Jared Flood

Jared Flood is a Brooklyn-based knitwear designer and photographer. His designs for handknitters have been featured in Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and Knit 1 magazines as well as various other print and online publications. Jared’s first book, Made in Brooklyn – a collection of hand knitting patterns in natural fibers – was published in August 2009.

Tanis Gray

Tanis Gray graduated with honors from RISD and went on to work with Martha Stewart and in television and film. Having recently moved from New York to DC, she served as the Yarn Editor to Vogue Knitting, Knit Simple and countless knitting books and other magazines in addition to being the co-Editor of knit.1. Tanis has over 150 publishing knitting designs and a deep love for all things knit.

Wendy D. Johnson

is the blogger and knitter extraordinaire behind the popular blog WendyKnits.net, which has twice been nominated for the Bloggers’ Choice Awards “Best Hobby Blog.” She is frequently quoted in major knitting magazines and is the author of Wendy Knits and Socks from the Toe Up. oe-Up Socks for Every Body: Adventurous Lace, Cables, and Colorwork from Wendy Knits will be released on March 23, 2010. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

Courtney Kelley & Kate Gagnon Osborn

Courtney Kelley and Kate Gagnon Osborn are the co-owners of Kelbourne Woolens, distributor of The Fibre Company yarns.  They blog at KelbourneWoolens.com/blog where you can find free patterns, yarn info and other neat tidbits.  Both design regularly for Interweave Knits and Vogue Knitting, and their popular pattern line is available at KelbourneWoolens.com.   Kate and Courtney are also the process of writing a book with Interweave Press scheduled to be released in Fall of 2010.
