Private events and classes are one of the unique features of fibre space. Our rocket themed classroom or entire retro shop are available for rent for private knit and crochet events or parties. fibre space staff will also come to a venue of your choice in the DC metro area. Unique way to celebrate a baby or bridal shower or a night with friends!

Stitch n Pitch

Join us on Friday, May 18 to cheer on the Washington Nationals as they take on the Baltimore Oriels at Nationals Park, and bring your favorite fiber craft along! Stitch & Pitch™ is a constantly growing program sponsored by The National Needle Arts Association.

The gates open at 4:30 and the first pitch is at 7:05 pm.

Tickets are available at the shop! Sit with the fibre space crew by grabbing your tickets from the store. You may purchase online or in the store. They are $20 with credit card or $18 with cash or check. Our seats are in OF Reserved (right field under cover).

OTBD Boutiques Give Back logoReady to do a little shopping in Old Town and support 30+ charities at the same time?  The Old Town Boutique District is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Boutiques Give Back Day taking place on Saturday, May 19, 2012.   This creative, small business driven, yet community focused event is staged to be the largest charity collaboration in the DC Metro area.

Each boutique has hand-picked an organization to support and honor on this special shopping day. fibre space™ is delighted to host a fundraiser for Project Knitwell! On Saturday, May 19th from 10 am- 7 pm, we will donate 20% of our sales to Project Knitwell – to support their mission to bring the healing properties of knitting to those who most need it.

About Project Knitwell

Project Knitwell is a non-profit organization bringing the joy of knitting to persons facing difficult situations. Most Project Knitwell participants are patients and/or family members who have spent a considerable amount of time in a local hospital.

Their Mission: To bring the joy of knitting and its therapeutic benefits to persons facing stressful situations by providing expert instruction and quality materials. Through knitting, participants can obtain a myriad of wellness benefits, find comfort in becoming part of a larger knitting community, and gain a sense of satisfaction by completing hand-knit items for themselves and others.

Create your own hand dyed skeins of yarn! In this workshop you will explore kettle dying techniques and color theory with Karida of Neighborhood Fiber Co. Leave with two amazing skeins of sock yarn – dyed by you!

Ann Weaver Color Theory, Albers and Shawl Design Workshops

Designing Square and Rectangular Shawls – Saturday, May 26, 2-6 pm

In this workshop, knitters will learn a few methods for creating square and rectangular shawls in one piece, using simple stitch patterns and modular techniques. Registration is $85.

Fair Isle Design and Tricks with Tanis Gray

Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you’re looking to take your Fair Isle knitting to the next level, this is the class for you! Whether you want to combination knit, learn to color knit with both yarns in one hand Continental or English style, or knit without tangling your yarn, all levels are welcome. We’ll also design our own mittens and begin using techniques we learn in class as well as cover the history of Fair Isle knitting.  Many people dislike Fair Isle because they don’t know the tricks…you’ll be addicted after taking this class.
