Workshops and Events

Events and workshops are one of the unique features of our shop.  We strive to provide regular events for the local knit and crochet community.

Yarn Tastings

We present regular themed “yarn tastings” which allow each participant to try out several different fibres while enjoying a food and drink pairing.  These tastings are educational, providing detailed information about the construction and fibre content of each yarn, as well as its properties when knitted or crocheted. Participants then receive a discount on all of the yarn “tasted” during the event.

Workshops

fibre space puts together some of the area’s most unique workshops, featuring well-known designers, creative venues and exciting topics. We have hosted Wendy Johnson and Stephanie Japel at venues like the Morrison House and the Mansion on O Street. Save the date for:

Socks Norwegian style

sockbenchStranded Colorwork Socks – A Mary Jane Mucklestone workshop

Sunday, February 28, 2-7 pm at the fibre space shop

Cost is $95

This workshop is now sold out.

So you’ve knit a pair of socks or two, you’ve done some stranded colorwork and now you want to have a bit more fun and explore combining the two.  You’ll start work on a fun pair of fair isle socks, stranding and picking up tips and techniques from Mary Jane.   We will learn to read colorwork charts, a simple “afterthought heel”, what to do with those pesky ends, ideas on choosing and combining colors and even a bit of design. Follow the pattern Mary Jane will provide, or plunge in and design your own custom pair. Come ready for colorful fun and adventure.

The workshop will include Norwegian style dinner and beverages.
